The Loved
Ali doesn’t exactly like to admit to things that she likes and dislikes, thinking that maybe someone will use that against her, but there are many things that she enjoys. The most dominant of these would definitely be her love of music. Ali had a phobia of being alone and music is often the only thing that can calm her down. Ali also enjoys crowded areas, which goes along with her phobia. As long as she has at least one person around she’s fine.
She has a secret love of writing book and stories. No one knows about this and she has never let anyone read something she has written. This is mostly because she isn’t confident about her writing skills and she’d prefer not to have her words exposed to the world.
Strawberries are her favorite thing to eat and she will sometimes be seen just eating them from a bag while she sits and listens to her music or walks from class to class. Maybe it’s because it reminds her of blood, which she of course highly enjoys. Ali also secretly is a huge romantic and loves anything even remotely romantic, though she tries to hide it.
The Hated
Ali dislikes a number of things, but who doesn’t? The thing she hates the most would have to be admitting her fears. She doesn’t like to talk about her phobia or about her dependence on music or her mother’s lullaby and if someone brings it up Ali will tend to switch subjects pretty quickly.
Extremely rude people also are dislikes by her and Ali will let someone know if they are annoying her in any way. Though she highly dislikes werewolves and hunters, Ali believes that everyone should be treated equally. Still, she tends to be a little harsh towards werewolves and hunters, though not too harsh by her accounts.
Those who give vampires a bad name also tick Ali off and if she sees a vampire that she believes is “smudging her race’s image”, she will tell them and, at times, just straight up slap them, even if they are stronger and of a higher-power family than her own. Finally, Ali doesn’t like the smell of roses. To her it is a disgusting smell that makes her gag at times. So if you’re trying to woo her, don’t even think about giving her a bouquet of roses.
The Feared
Ali doesn’t like admitting to her fears since she believes that they are weaknesses that could be used against her so as to hurt either her or those she cares about. Still, she does have them despite the fact that she is a very brave girl. Being alone is her greatest fear. Ever since she was forced to witness the murdering of her mother and father, Ali has feared being alone. She will go crazy if she is left alone for too long and usually the only thing that can keep her from going completely insane is if she listens to the recording of her mother singing her a lullaby.
She also fears dying, werewolves, and clowns. Ever since that traumatic experience in her past, Ali has been afraid to die. She doesn’t believe in any sort of God and she is scared of what awaits her after her death. Though she is usually extremely haughty around werewolves, she is actually terrified of them. They are some of the strongest creatures on Earth and many of them could easily hurt her despite her fighting abilities. Clowns are just scary. Simple as that.
Finally, Ali highly fears falling in love. Though she is a closet romantic and loves to flirt and the like, Ali is absolutely terrified of falling in love. She’s scared that if she falls in love with someone, something bad will happen to ruin it all. Thus, she tends not to take many men seriously despite their obvious feelings towards her. If she did acknowledge them then she would face the possibility of falling in love.
The Attitude
Ali tends to prefer crowded places like a train station or a room filled with people. When left alone for too long, she begins to panic and must put on her headphones, shut her eyes, and listen to a recording of her mother singing a lullaby to her until someone comes and finds her. The phobia was acquired after her mother was killed in front of her. Besides that, though, Hiroshi is a pretty laid-back person. She thrives in seeing others happy, loving to see others smile.
To Ali there are only two kinds of people; those that she cares about, and everyone else. If you are her friend, she will stand by you in the worst of times and is the most trusted person you could have in your life, but if you aren't her friend or she finds something she dislikes in you... You'd better watch out! She is very cautious about who she befriends since she doesn’t want to be hurt by anyone.
Ali has a strange quality that her grandmother thrust upon her. When she wants to, she can be the most manner-filled person on Earth and one that is the perfect vision of femininity. But rarely does she show this side of her, preferring to be herself around others. Her music is her soothing point and she knows nearly everything about all kinds of music. She doesn't have a favorite kind that she prefers; anything that she enjoys she'll listen to. You will never see Hiroshi without her signature headphones either around her neck or on her ears. They're attached to a small music devise that her brother made for her that sits in her pocket at all times.
The Past
Ali’s mother, Olivia, and her father, Daniel, were both from high-class vampire families. Still, both were the black sheep of their families. They met when Olivia ran away from her home and traveled to France after hearing that she was to be married to a distant cousin of hers. Olivia’s one love at that times was her music. She was a musical producer with the ability to play any instrument instantly.
Daniel came from a very old-style family who thought that he should follow in the family business, which… wasn’t exactly legal. Daniel himself wanted to be a chef. Though most foods didn’t go well with his taste buds seeing as he drank blood, Daniel loved to cook and see his edible creations being eaten and enjoyed.
The two met when Olivia walked into Daniel’s restaurant. The two instantly fell in love and on a whim, Olivia stayed in France so as to live with Daniel in secret. Neither of their families knew about the couple and they preferred to keep it that way. When finally Daniel and Olivia decided to be married, they told their families, who highly rejected the joining of the two. Despite this, however, they were married and lived a comfortable life away from their families in a large mansion in France.
A year into their marriage, Olivia became pregnant with a baby boy. When he was born they named him Giacomo Cross. They gave him an Italian name because they didn't want to stick with either American or French names. Four years later, Olivia got pregnant again, this time with a girl. She was born on her brother's birthday, January 1st, at nearly the same time. This time they stuck with Ali, naming her after her father’s mother.
The family of four lived for seven years in total happiness, their lives seeming perfect in their home in France. But then disaster struck. Daniel, though a powerful vampire of high class, acquired a disease that Ali at age seven couldn't even pronounce. He died, leaving his family in a state of depression. Not long after his father's death, Giacomo, who had been closer to his father then his sister, took a job in Japan, moving there and leaving his mother and sister. It was a shocking change that plunged the two women into darkness.
The next two years passed slowly as Ali lived with her mother, rarely speaking with her brother. She grew attached to her mother so that when left alone she would become fearful and cry until her mother came and found her. When these things occurred, her mother would sing her a lullaby that she had made up, titled, "My Little Ali". On a visit, Ali's brother witnessed one of these occurrences and decided to do a good thing for his sister and recorded his mother singing the song. Then he put it on a small music device that he had created at his job in Japan and gave it to Ali.
Two years after Daniel's death, only three days before both Ali and Giacomo's birthdays, a group of hunters broke in and killed Olivia while Ali watched in horror from a crack in the closet. The memory sticks in Ali's mind even to this day and she was in depression for a long amount of time. Her brother, learning of the news of his mother's death, moved back to France, knowing that she needed him.
The two siblings became close over the years and would do most anything for each other. Their grandmother on their father's side, Maryse Cross, lives not too far away and is an accomplished actress in a soap opera. She is often pushing Ali to act like a high-class young lady and become the high-power vampire that is connected with Ali’s family names. She forced Ali to take lessons and paid for them in full (her being rather rich).
The moment that Ali heard about Dark Academy, she wanted to go. It sounded fun and being in a private school with other students all day would definitely help her to settle her phobia. She still carries around her headphones wherever she goes, but her phobia had been doing a lot better with all the people around. Of course, the problem that there are both hunters and werewolves is one that Ali tries to ignore.
The Family
Ali’s family was a semi-powerful one in the vampire world, though they weren’t all that well known. Those people that did know about them and had met the different members of the family found them to be delightful company and great business partners. Of course, Ali’s parents both left there homes and their families behind for each other.
Olivia, Ali’s mother, was a beautiful, young, American vampire. She had long, straight black hair, much like Ali’s, and gray eyes. She was known in the American vampire underground as a true jewel and many suitors from other families asked for her hand. She rejected all of them until she found Daniel and instantly fell in love. Olivia was killed by a group of vampire hunters that attacked the house.
Daniel Cross’s family was at the top of the French vampire community. They were a large business family and the Cross name was known both in the vampire as well as the human world. Still, Daniel’s biggest interest was in cooking. He’d always loved cooking and seeing the happy faces of those that ate his food. So he broke off from his family, only staying in contact with his mother. Daniel died from a mysterious disease despite the fact that he was a pureblood vampire.
Giacomo, Ali’s older brother by four years, is probably the closest person to her. Giacomo takes care of her and, actually, is the next in line for the role as the head of the Cross family, but he doesn’t take it, not wanting to put his sister through all of that. He owns a large portion of a famous manufacturing company and is a skilled inventor.
Maryse Cross is the father of Daniel and Ali’s grandmother. She is an excellent actress and has starred in many productions, her most recent being a famous soap opera. She would like to see her granddaughter become a high-class young woman like she imagines all powerful vampires should be, but Ali tends to reject those advances.
